Demographic situation in Poland up to 2022

Analytical information on the demographic processes in recent years and on the demographic situation in 2022 (changes in the number and structure of population, general information on births, marriages, divorces, separataions, deaths and population migrations).

Social dialogue partners – employers’ organizations and trade unions in 2022

In 2022, 353 active employers’ organizations associated 21,6 thous. members. However, a total of 1.4 milion people belonged to 11 656 trade unions. The most significant part of trade union members (19,3%) worked in education, while employers belonging to the employers’ organizations to a greatest extend dealt with human health and social work activities (16,6%).

The demand for labour in the second quarter of 2023

At the end of the second quarter of 2023, there were 113.2 thousand job vacancies in Poland (1.5% fewer than at the end of the first quarter of the current year). The number of job vacancies decreased the most on a year-over-year basis in the Financial and insurance activities section. The job vacancy rate remained at the same level as in the previous quarter (0.90%).

Information on entities of the national economy entered in the REGON register - August 2023

As at the end of August 2023 the REGON register included 5 099.9 thous. of national economy entities, i.e. by 0.3% more than a month before. The number of newly registered entities in August amounted to 32.0 thous.

Accidents at work in the first half of 2023 - preliminary data

28,400 persons injured in accidents at work were reported in the first half of 2023, by 1.8% more than in the first half of 2022. The number of injured persons per 1,000 employed persons (the incidence rate) increased from 1.89 to 1.99.

Producer price indices for business services in the second quarter of 2023

In the second quarter of 2023, the producer prices for business services increased compared to the previous quarter by 1.3% and compared to the second quarter of 2022 by 8.0%.

Pensioners employed in the national economy in March 2023

At the end of March 2023, there were 783.3 thousand pensioners (old-age pensioners and other pensioners) employed in the national economy, 50.5% of whom were women.

Cattle population as of June 2023

Cattle population in June 2023 reached 6353.7 thousand heads and was lower by 1.4% com-pared to June of last year. The decrease in the total number of cattle herd resulted from a decrease in the population of all heard age groups except cattle over 2 years old (exclud-ing cows).

Pig population as of June 2023

According to preliminary data, the population of pigs* in June 2023 was 9436.3 thousand heads showing a decrease of 1.8% compared to the analogical period last year. The reduc-tion in numbers occurred in four groups of pigs, in particular in the fattening pigs, where it was 4.8%.

Outlays and results in industry - the 1st quarter to the 2nd quarter 2023

Basic data and indicators characterizing the socio-economic situation of the country, presented in the form of data series - monthly, quarterly and annual on industry, including data on production, turnover, new orders, employment, average monthly gross wages, worked time, investment outlays, current assets, the sources of financing of enterprises assets.

Animal production expressed in physical terms in 2022

The publication includes results of final estimates of animal production, information about the production of animals for slaughter (beef, veal, pork, poultry, mutton, horseflesh), wool, milk, honey, eggs for consumption and eggs for hatching.

Municipal infrastructure – energy and gas supply system in 2022

In Poland in 2022 household consumption of electricity decreased by 5.0%, and the number of consumers increased by 1.8%.

Financial results of cultural institutions in the first half of 2023

In the first half of 2023, the financial results of cultural institutions increased compared to those obtained in the corresponding period of the previous year. Total revenues increased by 17.4% and investments outlays increased by 15.1% during this period.

Housing economy in 2022

In Poland, as of the end of 2022, there were recorded over 15.6 million dwellings (an increase of 1.4 % compared to the end of 2021) with the total useful floor area 1 172,9 million m2, with 59.7 million rooms.

Human resources in selected medical professions based on administrative sources in 2022

The study is the result of an analysis of administrative sources, including registers, in relation to four medical professions: doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives . It showcases the resulting statistical data for the resources of the medical staff, as well as methodological information describing the assumptions of the method based only on several administrative sources obtained by official, public statistics.

The 4/2023 issue of "Statistics in Transition new series" was published on 8 September 2023.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-July 2023

Foreign trade turnover in January - July 2023 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 944.8 bn, while in imports - PLN 907.0 bn. The positive balance reached the level of PLN 37.9 bn, while in the same period of 2022 year was negative and amounted to PLN 49.8 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of last year exports increased by 4.4%, while imports decreased by 5.0%.

Consumer price indices in August 2023

Consumer prices in August 2023, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 10,1% (with an increase of prices of services – by 11,1% and goods – by 9,8%). As related to the previous month consumer prices remained at the same level (of which goods decreased – by 0,2%, and the prices of services increased – by 0,6%).

Business services in 2021

In 2021 the value of turnover of enterprises conducting activities related to business services amounted to PLN 541.0 billion. In comparison to the previous year, the increase in turnover with the simultaneous growth of the number of enterprises and persons employed were observed.

Consumer tendency - September 2023

In September 2023, there was an improvement in both current and future consumer senti-ment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indica-tor, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was -20.3 which was by 2.0 p.p. higher in relation to last month.

Average paid employment and average gross wages and salaries in enterprise sector in August 2023

In August 2023, the average paid employment in the enterprise sector was similar to that recorded in August 2022 and amounted to 6 502.1 thousand full-time equivalent employees. Compared with the previous month, the average paid employment was lower by 0.2%.

Price indices of sold production of industry in August 2023

According to preliminary data, the prices of sold production of industry in August 2023 increased compared to July 2023 by 0.1% and decreased compared to the corresponding month of the previous year - by 2.8%.

Index numbers of sold production of industry in August 2023

In August 2023, sold production of industry was by 2.0% lower than in August 2022, when an increase was recorded by 10.9% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, whereas in comparison with July 2023, it increased by 1.0%. In the period January-August of 2023, sold production of industry was by 1.9% lower than in the corresponding period of 2022, which saw an increase by 12.9% as compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

Average monthly wage and salary in enterprise sector excluding payments from profit in August 2023

Price indices of construction and assembly production in August 2023

According to preliminary data, in August 2023 the prices of construction and assembly production in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year increased by 9.8%, and in comparison with July 2023 by 0.8%.

Prices of agricultural products in August 2023

Procurement prices of basic agricultural products decreased in August 2023 in comparison with the previous month (by 3.2%) as well as while compared to the corresponding period of the last year (by 18.7%).

Residential construction in the period of January-August 2023

In the first eight months of 2023, there were less dwellings completed than the year before. The number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project as well as dwellings in which construction has begun also decreased.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in August 2023

According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in August 2023 by 3.5% higher than in the same period of 2022 (an increase of 5.9% in the corresponding period of 2022) and by 7.4% higher compared to July 2023 (an increase of 5.0% in the corresponding period of 2022).

Retail sales index - August 2023

In August 2023 retail sales at constant prices were by 2.7% lower than the year before (against an increase of 4.2% in August 2022). Compared with July 2023 an increase by 2.8% in retail sales was recorded. In the period of January-August 2023 sales decreased y/y by 4.2% (in 2022 a growth of 7.3%).

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services - September 2023

In September the assessments of general business climate indicator in all of presented kinds of activities are at lower or similar level as compared to the ones presented in August. In all areas, except for retail trade, the indicator is below the long-term mean . In majority of the areas, month-to-month level of both "diagnostic" and "forecasting" com-ponents does not change or deteriorates.

Basic information on volume production of major industrial products manufactured by entities with the number of persons employed 50 or more. The information relates to the production of finished products for sale, as well as for further processing inside the enterprise, produced from own and entrusted raw materials.

Border traffic and expenses made by foreigners in Poland and by Poles abroad in the 2nd quarter of 2023

In the 2nd quarter of 2023, there was an increase in border traffic of foreigners by 2.3% and Poles by 10.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. The values of goods and services purchased in this period by foreigners in Poland and by Poles abroad were higher than in the 2nd quarter of 2022 by 17.1% and 25.7% respectively.

Family benefits in 2022

In 2022, PLN 11.4 billion was allocated to support families in the form of family benefits. PLN 1.2 billion was spent on social security and health insurance contributions. In addition, PLN 3.5 billion was paid out from the family care capital, and PLN 1.4 billion under the "Good Start" programme. The Large Family Card was held by 1.5 million families. The total amount of alimony fund benefits paid was nearly PLN 1 billion. Under the government's "Family 500 plus" programme, PLN 41.9 billion was transferred for child-raising benefits.

Transport - activity results in 2022

Family benefits paid to Ukrainian citizens in 2022

In 2022, PLN 130.5 million was allocated to support Ukrainian citizens in the form of family benefits, which accounted for 1.1% of the total amount of family benefits paid to both Polish and Ukrainian citizens. 64.4% was paid for the payment of family allowances with supplements. The care capital in the amount of PLN 97.2 million was also paid, and under the government programme "Family 500+" PLN 1737.1 million was allocated for the child-raising benefit.

This survey provides information on the Universities of the Third Age (U3A), including educational, integrating activities and those promoting active living. As at the last day of April 2023, there were 15 148,5 thousand employed persons in the national economy. The average age and median age of employed persons in the national economy were similar. The average age was 42.5 years and the median age was 42.0 years.

Quarterly information about labour market was compiled on the basis of generalised results of the representative Labour Force Survey (LFS), carried out in the 2nd quarter of 2023, compared to the results of these surveys from the previous quarter and corresponding periods of 2022 and 2015. Local government units (JST) obtained revenue by 2.9% higher than in 2021. At the same time, expenditure increased by 10.3%. The result of budgets of local government units amounted to minus PLN 629.8 million compared to PLN 3 162.1 million in the previous year. The ratio of the deficit to total income was at the level of 1.1%.
