Yearbook of Labour Statistics 2019

The publication presents data for 2017 and 2018 on the economic activity of the Polish population, employed persons, labour turnover and vacancies, unemployed persons, working conditions (the working time structure, strikes, working conditions at the workplace, accidents at work), labour costs and wages and salaries (the wages and salaries fund as well as average monthly nominal and real wages and salaries, wages and salaries by position and job, the structure of full-time employees by wages and salaries).

The handbook sets forth standards of cartographic presentation of statistical data, thus responding to the growing demand for information shown in the territorial and spatial contexts. This demand necessitates constant enhancement of the forms of statistical presentation of data – not only as tables and charts, but also on maps.

The demand for labour in the fourth quarter of 2019

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2019 the number of job vacancies in Poland, in entities of the national economy or in their local units, employing at least 1 person, was 125,4 thousand and was 23,2 thousand or 15,6% lower than at the end of the third quarter of 2019.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January 2020

Foreign trade turnover in January this year according to exports at current prices amounted to PLN 82.2 bn, while imports amounted to PLN 81.5 bn. The positive balance reached the level of PLN 0.7 bn, as in the corresponding period of the previous year. In comparison to January 2019, exports decreased by 0.1%, and imports by 0.2%.

Consumer price indices in February 2020

Consumer prices in February 2020 compared with the corresponding month of the previous year increased by 4,7% (with an increase of prices of services – by 6,4% and goods – by 4,1%). As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 0,7% (with an increase of prices of services – by 1,1% and goods by 0,5%).

In February 2020, average paid employment in enterprise sector was higher by 1.1% y/y and amounted to 6445.9 thousand, and average gross wages and salaries were higher by 7.7% y/y and amounted to 5330.48 PLN.

According to preliminary data in February 2020 the prices of sold production of industry were higher in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year by 0.1% and in comparison with January 2020 fell by 0.2%.

In February 2020, sold production of industry was by 4.9% higher than in February 2019, which saw 6.9% increase, whereas in comparison with January 2020, it increased by 2.2%. In the period January-February of 2020, sold production of industry was by 2.7% higher than in the corresponding period of 2019, which saw a 6.7% increase.

Price indices of construction and assembly production in February 2020

According to preliminary data in February 2020 the prices of construction and assembly production were higher by 3.1% in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year and by 0.3% in comparison with January 2020.

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services - March 2020

In March business tendency is assessed worse than in the previous month by majority of scrutinised kinds of activities. The most significant decreases were reported by: transportation and storage, wholesale trade as well as accommodation and food service activities. Only directors of companies operating in the field of financial and insurance activities formulate appraisals similar to those reported in February.

Residential construction in the period of January-February 2020

In the first two month of 2020 there were more dwellings completed than the year before. The number of dwellings in which construction has begun also increased, whereas the number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project decreased.

According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in February 2020 by 5.5% higher than a year before (against an increase by 15.1% the year before) and by 14.1% higher compared with January 2020 (against an increase by 15.1% the year before).

In February 2020 retail sales at constant prices were by 7.3% higher than the year before (against a growth of 5.6% in February 2019).

In 2019 financial results of cultural institutions were better compared to results in the same period of the previous year. Total revenues increased by 5.5% and investment outlays increased by 21.0%.

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services 2000-2020 (March 2020)

Answers to business tendency surveys’ (BTS) questionnaires were collected from entrepreneurs between 1 and 10 March 2020, i.e. before announcing the state of epidemic emergency within The Republic of Poland (14 March 2020). It is expected that the April edition of the survey will better reflect the impact of “coronavirus” pandemic on enterprises’ activity.

Border traffic and expenses made by foreigners in Poland and by Poles abroad in the 4th quarter of 2019

In the 4th quarter of 2019 the estimated number of crossings of the Polish border amounted to 305.8 million persons, which was 3.2% more than in 2018, of which 180.2 million were foreigners and 125.7 million Poles. In this period, both foreigners and Poles reported an increase in border traffic by 2.7% and 3.8% respectively.

Data and indicators related to statistics on science and technology: research and development activities (R&D), innovative activities of industrial companies and in the services sector, industrial property, biotechnology, nanotechnology, production, paid employment, and trade according to technology levels and human resources for science and technology.

Cultural and creative industries in 2018

In 2018 117.2 thousand enterprises belonging to the cultural and creative industries carried out the activity. The overwhelming majority of entities (98.9%) were microenterprises, comprising 70.5% of those working in the area of cultural and creative industries. Gross monthly salary per employee amounted to PLN 6,029 and was higher by PLN 1,213 in comparison with all non-financial enterprises.

Methodological report Wages and salaries in the national economy

The survey on Wages and salaries in the national economy is one of the principal surveys carried out by the Statistics Poland allowing current assessment of the situation on the labour market. The survey data comprise the basic source of information on shaping of the average monthly wages and salaries in the national economy.

Accidents at work in 2019 - preliminary data

83,205 persons injured in accidents at work were reported in 2019, by 1.3% fewer than in 2018. The number of injured persons per 1,000 employed persons also decreased (the so-called incidence rate) from 6.37 in 2018 to 6.15 in 2019.

At the end of 2018, 1 859 enterprises in Poland (an increase as compared to 2017 by 1.1%) declared involvement in 3 849 foreign entities (a decrease by 2.3% comparing to 2017) in the form of shares, branches or other forms. Majority of foreign entities were located in Germany, Czechia, Ukraine and Russia.
