Information regarding the labour market in the fourth quarter of 2019 (preliminary data)

The results of the labour force survey (LFS) indicate that economically active persons in the fourth quarter of 2019, constituted 56.0% of the population aged 15 years and more. Compared with the third quarter of 2019, this indicator decreased by 0.7 percentage point, while compared to the fourth quarter of 2018 it stayed at similar level (a drop by 0.1 percentage point).


In the fourth quarter of 2019, the number of economically active population aged 15 years and more comprised 16953 thousand persons, of whom 16467 thousand comprise employed persons and 486 thousand – unemployed persons. The population of economically inactive persons amounted to 13313 thousand.

The population of the economically active decreased as compared with both: the third quarter of 2019, as well as the fourth quarter of 2018 (a drop by respectively 198 thousand and by 105 thousand), which was mainly the effect of further systematic decrease in the unemployed population. In turn, the number of economically inactive persons increased as compared with the third quarter of 2019, although it was smaller than in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The indicator defining the ratio of the number of persons not in employment (the unemployed and economically inactive aged 15 years and more) to the number of employed persons increased as compared with the third quarter of 2019, while it decreases as compared with the same period of 2018. In the fourth quarter of 2019, there were 838 unemployed or economically inactive persons per 1000 employed persons (in the third quarter of 2019 and in the fourth quarter of 2018 the respective figures comprised 822 and 853 persons).
