Biotechnology and nanotechnology in Poland in 2022
In 2022, 187 firms conducted biotechnology activities, which constitutes an increase by 8.1% in comparison to the previous year. Biotechnology intramural expenditures incurred by firms amounted to PLN 1952.7 million and increased by 41.4% on an annual basis. In 2022, 4317 persons were employed in biotechnology in firms. Biotechnology research and experimental development was conducted by 234 entities, that is, by 7.8% more in comparison with the previous year. Biotechnology R&D intramural expenditures amounted to PLN 1432.4 million and increased by 20.9% annually. 8431 persons were involved in biotechnology research and experimental development.

Registrations and bankruptcies of enterprises in the third quarter of 2023
In the third quarter of 2023, there were 86,179 registrations of enterprises recorded i.e. 8.3% less than in the corresponding period of previous year and 87 enterprises declared bankruptcy i.e. 26.1% more than in the third quarter of 2022.

As at the end of October 2023 the REGON register included 5 130.9 thous. of national economy entities, i.e. by 0.3% more than a month before. The number of newly registered entities in October amounted to 37.1 thous.

Tourist accommodation establishments in coastal areas in July and August 2023
In July and August 2023, 1.8 million tourists were accommodated in tourist accommodation establishments located in coastal areas, and 8.0 million overnight stays were provided for them. Compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists was lower by 0.6%, and number of overnight stays decreased by 4.8%.

Financial instruments of non-financial enterprises in 2022
2,415 subjects participated in the study. Financial instruments in assets were shown by 2,300 enterprises for the amount of PLN 751.0 billion. Financial instruments in liabilities were shown by 2,183 enterprises for the amount of PLN 797.0 billion. Derivatives in assets and liabilities were reported by 416 and 314 entities, respectively, and the value of these instruments amounted to PLN 30.2 billion and PLN 40.1 billion.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-September 2023
Foreign trade turnover in January - September 2023 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 1 204.2 bn, while in imports - PLN 1 160.5 bn. The positive balance reached the level of PLN 43.8 bn, while in the same period of 2022 year was negative and amounted to PLN 70.5 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of last year exports increased by 1.7 %, while imports decreased by 7.5 %.

In October 2023, the average paid employment in the enterprise sector compared with October 2022 was lower by 0.1% and amounted to 6 494.1 thousand full-time equivalent employees. Compared to the previous month, the average paid employment was recorded at a similar level.

Index numbers of sold production of industry in October 2023
In October 2023, sold production of industry was by 1.6% higher than in October 2022, when an increase was recorded by 6.6% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, whereas in comparison with September 2023, it increased by 4.1%. In the period January-October of 2023, sold production of industry was by 1.5% lower than in the corresponding period of 2022, which saw an increase by 11.6% as compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services - November 2023
In November the assessments of general business climate indicator in most of presented kinds of activities are at a similar or higher level as compared to the ones presented in October. In the case of seasonally adjusted data, majority of these kinds of activities assess it more favourably than in the previous month. In all areas, except for retail trade, the indicator is below the long-term mean. In most of areas, month-to-month level of both "diagnostic" and "forecasting" components increases or remains unchanged.

Demographic Yearbook of Poland 2023
The Yearbook contains the basic information on the numbers and structure of the population of Poland in 2022, and retrospective data prepared on the basis of population summaries and data on vital statistics (characteristics of new marriages, adjudged divorces and separations, births and deaths), as well as lifespan. In the period of January - October 2023, there were less dwellings completed than the year before. The number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project as well as dwellings in which construction has begun also decreased.

Consumer tendency - November 2023
In November 2023, there was an improvement in both current and future consumer sentiment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indicator, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was -15.1[1] which was by 2.8 p.p. higher in relation to last month.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in October 2023
According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in October 2023 by 9.8% higher than in the same period of 2022 (an increase of 3.9% in the corresponding period of 2022) and by 2.5% higher compared to September 2023 (an increase of 4.0% in the corresponding period of 2022).

Retail sales index - October 2023
In October 2023 retail sales at constant prices were by 2.8% higher than the year before (against an increase of 0.7% in October 2022). Compared with Septmber 2023, an increase by 3.2% in retail sales was recorded. In the period of January-October 2023 sales decreased y/y by 2.6% (in 2022 a growth of 6.0%).

Financial results of non-financial enterprises in January-September 2023
In January-September of 2023 financial results of the surveyed non-financial enterprises were deteriorated to those obtained a year earlier. The economic and financial indicators decreased. Investment outlays were higher by 11.5% than those recorded in January-September of 2022 (when there was an increase by 5.0%).

The value of total assets collected by investment funds at the end of June 2023 amounted to 329.0 billion PLN (an increase of 9.8% compared to the end of June of the previous year). The value of funds investments increased to 262.5 billion PLN (by 16.1%).

Economic activity of enterprises with foreign capital in 2022
In 2022, 22.2 thousand enterprises with foreign capital conducted economic activity in Poland and the value of their foreign capital amounted to 233.7 billion PLN. Over half of the foreign capital (53.1%) was located in entities with 250 and more persons employed. The largest number of entities operated in trade; repair of motor vehicles (24.4%) and the largest amount of foreign capital (39.0%) was involved in manufacturing.
