Statistical Atlas of Poland

In 2018, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Statistic Poland, we submit to you the Statistical Atlas of Poland. The publication illustrates in a cartographic manner the development of the country, in close connection with regional and local conditions, as well as the situation in the European Union and in the world. The social, economic, environmental and territorial dimensions included in the study are support for spatial analyses conducted to monitor the implementation of public policy objectives. Issues related to human capital, in connection with the quality of life of society, depict the social dimension of the cohesion policy. The economic aspect involves creation of financial and economic potential and their impact on competitive and sustainable development, also in the environmental context. Statistical maps are supplemented by administrative and political maps of Poland and Europe, as well as maps presenting statistical and functional divisions used by public statistics.

Polish statisticians. Biographical notes

Breakthroughs in the life of a nation always provoke thoughts on its past, economic, social and scientific achievements. This year’s centenary of regaining independence by Poland and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Statistics Poland provide an opportunity to remind and popularise pioneers and outstanding Polish statisticians. With this in mind, a publication entitled Polish statisticians was created. The aim of the publication is to preserve the memory of the people who contributed to the organisation, development and popularisation of statistics in Poland and in the international arena. The publication presents biographies of thirty persons – eminent scientists and educators, discoverers of new methods and theories – who made a significant contribution to the development of statistics. Reading the biograms brings closer the evolution of statistical thought and helps to understand its universality, indicating the links with other disciplines of science.

Statistics Poland celebrates its centenary this year. The history of the Office has been marked not only by a number of significant changes concerning the organisation and functioning, but also by the sustainability of its objectives and principles. Focusing on continuous development, for one hundred years Statistics Poland has been consistently implementing its mission by providing reliable information to its users. The momentous jubilee of the Office became an inspiration for the preparation of an album entitled “Statistics Poland. 100 Years on Photographs”. Selected facts from the life of the Institution, showing the changes in its activity, were presented on the basis of photographs. They are complemented by short biographies of successive presidents of Statistics Poland.

According to preliminary data in June 2018 the prices of sold production of industry were by 0.3% higher in comparison to May 2018. It is estimated that the prices of construction and assembly production in June 2018 increased by 0.4% in comparison to the previous month.

In June of 2018, sold production of industry was by 6.8% higher than in June of 2017, whereas an increase of 24.7% was reported in construction-assembly production. In the period January-June of 2018, sold production of industry was by 6.2% higher than in the corresponding period of 2017 which saw a 5.8% increase, whereas construction-assembly production was by 23.7% higher than in the corresponding period of 2017 which saw a 7.6% increase.

A picture of Poland. Statistics for SDGs

In 2015, Poland became one of 193 countries that signed the UN Resolution on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In July 2018, Poland is presenting for the first time its advancement towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the UN High Level Political Forum. On this occasion, Statistics Poland, as the coordinator of the SDGs monitoring process in Poland, has prepared the publication A picture of Poland. Statistics for SDGs, which aims to introduce foreign readers to a picture of our country and the role that Poland has to fulfill in achieving the Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The information set out in the publication was inspired by the development priorities for the country, indicated in the document Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Poland. Report 2018, prepared for this year's VNR by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology.Publication, as it is addressed mainly to foreign recipients, is available only in the English version.

Real estate sales in 2017

488.1 thous. notarial deeds relating to real estate sales were concluded in 2017, by 1.2% more than in the previous year. Compared to 2016 the highest increase in the number of notarial deeds concerned sales of properties buit-up with residential buildings (by 7.5%), sales of premises (by 7.4%), sales of land properties (by 4.9%) and sales of cooperative ownerhip right to premises (by 4.3%). The largest decrease was recorded in the case of notarial deeds on the sales of agricultural land (by 17.6%) and the sales of other properties (by 16.8%).
