Mortality and deaths by causes in first half of 2021 – provisional data

Demographic situation in Poland in the first half of 2021 was shaped the third wave by COVID-19 pandemic. It was mainly affected by the number of deaths, which was the highest in several years. The number of deaths in the first half of 2021 exceeded by over 70 thousand the average annual value from the last 15 years (271 thousand to 199 thousand), while the death rate per 100 thousand population was over 30 higher than in the first half of 2020.

Registrations and bankruptcies of enterprises in the fourth quarter of 2021

In the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 88 605 registrations of enterprises recorded i.e. 16.7% more than in the corresponding period of previous year and 87 enterprises declared bankruptcy i.e. 17.9% less than in the corresponding period of previous year.

Information on entities of the national economy entered in the REGON register - January 2022

As at the end of January 2022 the REGON register included 4 836.3 thous. of national economy entities, i.e. comparatively to the previous month (3.6% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year).

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-December 2021

Foreign trade turnover in January – December 2021 (based on temporary data) in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 1305.2 bn, while in imports - PLN 1308.1 bn. The negative balance reached the level of PLN 2.9 bn, while in the same period 2020 it was positive and amounted to PLN 47.2 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of 2020 exports increased by 22.8%, while imports by 28.0%.

Flash estimate of Gross Domestic Product in the fourth quarter of 2021

According to the flash estimate, gross domestic product (GDP) in volume terms seasonally unadjusted was higher by 7.3% in the 4th quarter of 2021 year-to-year against 2.5% decrease in the corresponding period of 2020.

Consumer price indices in January 2022

According to preliminary data, in January 2022 consumer prices increased by 9,2% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 1,9%.

Average paid employment and average gross wages and salaries in enterprise sector in January 2022

In January 2022, average paid employment in the enterprise sector compared to the January 2021 was higher by 2.3% y/y and amounted to 6459.8 thousand full-time jobs. In comparison to the previous month average paid employment increased by 1.5%. Average gross wages and salaries in the enterprise sector in January 2022 compared to the January 2021 were higher by 9.5% y/y and amounted to 6064.24 PLN. In comparison to December 2021 average gross wages and salaries decreased by 8.7%.

According to preliminary data, the prices of sold production of industry in January 2022 increased compared to December 2021 by 1.3% and compared to that recorded in the corresponding month of the previous year - by 14.8%.

In January 2022, sold production of industry was by 19.2% higher than in January 2021, when an increase was recorded by 0.7% as compared to the previous year, whereas in comparison with December 2021, it decreased by 3.0%.

The publication presents the results of the "Information Society Indicators" survey, which includes: a report on the use of ICT in enterprises, a report on the use of ICT in financial sector enterprises, the use of ICT in public administration units, the use of ICT in households (including an individual questionnaire) and basic characteristics of the ICT sector.

Residential construction in January 2022

In January 2022, there were less dwellings completed than the year before. The number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project as well as dwellings in which construction has begun also decreased.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in January 2022

Acording to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in January 2022 by 20.8% higher than a year before (against a decrease of 10.1% the year before) and by 56.5% lower compared with December 2021 (a decrease of 62.9% the year before).

Retail sales index - January 2022

In January 2022 retail sales at constant prices were by 10.6% higher than the year before (against a drop of 6.0% in January 2021). Compared with December 2021 retail sales decreased by 22.8%.

In all of presented kinds of activities general business climate indicator in February is whether at a higher level than in the previous month or similar. In most of researched areas improvement of “forecast” components is reported, whereas “diagnostic” ones decrease or do not change.

Procurement prices of basic agricultural products increased in January 2022 in comparison with the previous month (by 0.4%) as well as while compared to the corresponding period of last year (by 28.5%).

In February 2022, there was an improvement in both current and future consumer sentiment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indicator, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was -27.7[1] which was by 1.5 p.p. higher in relation to last month.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the number of the economically active persons aged 15–89 years comprised 17278 thousand, of which: 16780 thousand constituted employed per-sons, while 497 thousand – the unemployed. Seasonally unadjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the 4th quarter of 2021 was higher by 7.3% year-on-year comparision against the decrease of 2.5% in the corresponding quarter of 2020 (constant average prices of the previous year).

In 2020, in tourist accommodation establishments located in the 27 countries of the European Union 462.7 million people were accommodated, with 1.4 billion overnight stays provided to them. Compared to 2019, both the number of tourists and the number of overnight stays provided to them decreased - by 54.0% and 50.9% respectively.

At the end of 2021, there were 927669 entities of the national economy registered, i.e. by 4.5% more than in the previous year. Over half of the units (53.8%) had their seat in m.st. Warszawa. The largest number of entities (20.8%) dealt with trade; repair of motor vehicles, however the highest increase as compared to 2020 occurred in the section of information and communication (by 11.8%).

At the end of 2021, there were 499070 entities of the national economy registered, i.e. by 5.0% more than a year before. In the total number of entities, natural persons conducting economic activity prevailed (54.8%). The majority of entities (19.5%) conducted professional, scientific and technical activities, however the largest increase as compared to 2020 was recorded in the communication and information section (by 11.3%).
