Pharmacies and pharmaceutical outlets in 2021

At the end of 2021, there were operating 11.9 thousand pharmacies (generally available and dispensaries) and 1.1 thousand pharmaceutical outlets in which 58.3 thousand pharmacists and pharmaceutical technicians were employed.

Activity of centres of culture, cultural centres and establishments, clubs and community centres in 2021

As of the end of 2021, there were 3944 operating centres of culture, cultural establishments, cultural centres, clubs and community centres. During the year entities organised 156.6 thousand events, in which took part 18.3 million participants.

Financial results of cultural institutions in 2021

In 2021 assets (liabilities) of the surveyed cultural institutions as of December 31, 2021 amounted to PLN 21,209.4 million. Total revenues were higher by 9.5% and total costs by 10.5% in comparison to 2020.

Therapeutic activities of health resort facilities and inpatient rehabilitation facilities in 2021

At the end of 2021, there were operating 258 health resort facilities. 599.9 thousand patients were admitted to health resort facilities during a year, of which 529.9 thousand were inpatients. 61.0 thousand inpatients were treated in 43 inpa-tient rehabilitation facilities.

The demand for labour in the first quarter of 2022

At the end of the first quarter of 2022, there were 158.7 thousand job vacancies in Poland, 44.0% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Over the year, the number of newly created jobs decreased slightly (by 1.0%). On the other hand, the number of jobs liquidated during the quarter increased (by 16.6%). In the first quarter of 2022, there were 2.3 newly created jobs per liquidated job.

The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on selected elements of the labour market in Poland in the first quarter of 2022

At the end of the first quarter of 2022, there were 158.7 thousand job vacancies in Poland, 44.0% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Information on entities of the national economy entered in the REGON register - May 2022

As at the end of May 2022 the REGON register included 4 886.5 thous. of national economy entities, i.e. by 0.3% more than a month before (3.3% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year).

Accidents at work in the first quarter of 2022 - preliminary data

11,111 persons injured in accidents at work were reported in the first quarter of 2022, by 2.0% more than in 2021. The number of injured persons per 1,000 employed persons (the incidence rate) also increased from 0.81 to 0.82.

Producer price indices for business services in the first quarter of 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, the producer prices for business services increased compared to the previous quarter by 2.2% and compared to the first quarter of 2021 by 5.1%.

Occupancy of tourist accommodation establishments in March 2022 in the face of the inflow of refugees from Ukraine and the absence of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic

In March 2022, 2.4 million people, including 1.8 million domestic tourists and 456.1 thousand persons from abroad, were accommodated in tourist accommodation establishments in Poland. Additionally, 163.8 thousand refugees from war-stricken Ukraine found shelter in accommodation establishments during this period.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-April 2022

Foreign trade turnover in January-April 2022 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 487.0 bn, while in imports - PLN 532.3 bn. The negative balance reached the level of PLN 45.3 bn, while in the same period of 2021 year was positive and amounted to PLN 17.1 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of 2021 exports increased by 17.3%, while imports by 33.7%.

Consumer price indices in May 2022

Consumer prices in May 2022, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 13,9% (with an increase of prices of goods – by 14,9% and services – by 10,8%). As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 1,7% (of which goods – by 1,9% and services – by 1,0%).

Higher education in the 2021/22 academic year – preliminary data

As of 31 December 2021, there were 1,218.2 thousand people enrolled in higher education institutions in Poland, by 2.9 thousand more than in the previous year. 297.4 thousand graduates received diplomas in the 2020/21 academic year, by 3.9 thousand more than in 2019/20.

Energy efficiency in Poland 2010-2020

In Poland, in 2020, energy efficiency increased by 0.7% compared to 2019. In years 2011-2020, the annual growth rate of energy efficiency amounted to 1.5%. Primary energy intensity decreased during this period by an average of 2.8% per year, and the final energy intensity by 2.2%. The fastest rate of improvement in energy efficiency was recorded in transport (by 2.3%/year).

Employed persons, wages and salaries in the national economy in 2021 - preliminary data

According to preliminary data, at the end of 2021, the number of employed persons in the national economy1 was 15.0 million. Compared with the last day of 2020, this number was 1.6% higher.

Procurement prices of basic agricultural products increased in May 2022 in comparison with the previous month (by 2.3%) as well as while compared to the corresponding period of the last year (by 46.3%).

In May 2022, average paid employment in the enterprise sector compared to May 2021 was higher by 2.4% y/y and amounted to 6491.6 thousand full-time equivalents. In comparison to the previous month average paid employment minimally decreased (by 0.1%).

According to preliminary data, the prices of sold production of industry in May 2022 increased compared to April 2022 by 1.3% and compared to that recorded in the corresponding month of the previous year - by 24.7%.

Price indices of construction and assembly production in May 2022

According to preliminary data, in May 2022 the prices of construction and assembly production in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year increased by 12.2%, and in comparison with April 2022 - by 1.3%.

Residential construction in the period of January-May 2022

In the first five months of 2022, there were more dwellings completed than the year before. Whereas the number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project as well as dwellings in which construction has begun decreased.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in May 2022

Acording to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in May 2022 by 13.0% higher than a year before (an increase of 4.7% the year before) and by 14.2% higher compared with April 2022 (an increase of 10.2% the year before).

Retail sales index - May 2022

In May 2022 retail sales1 at constant prices were by 8.2% higher than the year before (against an increase of 13.9% in May 2021). Compared with April 2022 retail sales decreased by 1.7%. In the period of January-May2 2022 retail sales y/y were by 10.6% higher (against an increase of 7.9% in 2021).

Financial results of investment fund companies in 2021

The value of total assets acumulated by investment fund companies at the end of 2021 amounted to PLN 3.0 billion which means increase by 1.7% compared to the end of the previous year.

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services - June 2022

In all of presented kinds of activities general business climate indicator in June is at a lower or similar level as compared to the previous month. In most of researched areas “forecast” components deteriorate, whereas “diagnostic” ones do not change.

Consumer tendency - June 2022

In June 2022, there was a deterioration in both current and future consumer sentiment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indicator, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was -43.8 which was by 5.4 p.p. lower in relation to last month.

In the first quarter of 2022, the financial results of cultural institutions increased compared to those obtained in the corresponding period of the previous year. Total revenues increased by 19.7% during this period. Investment outlays increased by 21.3%.

Outpatient health care in 2021

At the end of 2021, outpatient health care was car-ried out by 22.0 thousand outpatient departments and 3.8 thousand doctors and dentists practices providing services funded by public sources. Dur-ing the year, 285.9 million doctors consultations and 30.7 million stomatological consultations were provided. Over 28% of total doctors consul-tations in primary health care were provided via telephone.

At the end of 2020, most (66.8%) of surveyed enterprises with 10 or more persons employed performed business functions exclusively internally and did not sourced them outside.

Occupancy of tourist accommodation establishments in the first quarter of 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, 5.9 million tourists were accommodated in tourist accommodation establishments, with 15.5 million overnight stays provided to them. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, the number of tourists staying in accommodation establishments increased by 280.4%, while the number of overnight stays provided to them increased by 292.6%.

Activity of leasing companies in 2021

The survey covered 85 enterprises conducting leasing activity in 2021. Throughout 2021, the surveyed enterprises concluded 659 thousand new lease agreements for 782 thousand assets/items leased. The value of concluded contracts in 2021 amounted to PLN 71.7 billion.

As of the end of 2021 there were 7,693 public libraries, which conducted 873 branches for children and youth and 842 library service points. 4.8 million library users1 borrowed 89.1 million volumes of collection during the year.

In Poland in 2021 the length of the sewage network increased by nearly 3.9 thousand km (by 2.3%), and the number of sewage connections to residential buildings by 109.2 thousand pcs (by 3.0%).

In the 1st quarter of 2022, border traffic of foreigners increased by 55.6% and of Poles by 48.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Forestry in 2021

As of 31 December 2021, forest land area comprised 9467.5 thousand ha, with forest area amounting to 9264.7 thousand ha, which was 29.6% of the area of the country. In 2021, forest renewals covered 65.8 thousand ha and afforestation – 0.6 thousand ha. In 2021, in comparison with the previous year, a recorded increase in total removals amounted to 42244.2 thousand m3 (a growth by 6.9%), and timber removals – 40691.6 thousand m3.

Economic poverty rates in Poland in 2021

Since 2016, the extreme poverty rate has remained at a similar level of 4–5%. There was a year-on-year decrease in extreme poverty rate from about 5% of people in 2020 to about 4% in 2021 and slightly larger decrease in legal poverty rate from about 9% to less than 7% with the threshold for this poverty unchanged since 2018. On the other hand, the value of the relative poverty rate (about 12%) was at a similar level as in 2020.

Environment 2021

In 2021, there was an increase noticed in water withdrawal for the needs of the national economy[1] and population by approximately 7% compared to the previous year, the amount of generated industrial and municipal wastewater increased by approximately 6%, there was a reduction of emission of particulate pollutants from plants of significant nuisance to air quality by 2%, and there was an increase in emitted of gaseous pollutants by 13%. There was a reduction of the amount of generated waste by 1%.
