Border traffic and expenses made by foreigners in Poland and by Poles abroad in the 4th quarter of 2023

In the 4th quarter of 2023, there was an increase in border traffic of foreigners by 2.6% and of Poles by 3.8%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The values of goods and services purchased in this period by foreigners in Poland and goods and services purchased by Poles abroad were higher than in the 4th quarter of 2022 by 9.3% and 12.3% respectively.

In 2023, the number of crossings of the Polish border amounted to 285.1 million persons. There was an increase in border traffic of foreigners by 5.2% and Poles by 7.9%, compared to the previous year. In the 4th quarter of 2023, the number of crossings of the Polish border amounted to 65.7 million persons. In the total number of crossings of the border, foreigners (non-residents) constituted 55.7% and Poles (residents) – 44.3%. The border traffic (from and to Poland) was higher by 2.0 million of crossings in relation to the same period of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, the total number of crossings decreased by 21.4% (foreigners by 21.9% and by Poles by 20.7%).

In the 4th quarter of 2022, 75.5% of all crossings concerned the land border of Poland with the European Union (EU) countries; 16.1% the border at airports, 7.9% external land border of the European Union and 0.5% sea border.
