Biotechnology and nanotechnology in Poland in 2023
In 2023, 195 firms conducted biotechnology activities, which constitutes an increase by 4.3% in comparison to the previous year. Biotechnology intramural expenditures incurred by firms amounted to PLN 2 382.2 million and increased by 22.0% on an annual basis. In 2023, 4 482 persons were employed in biotechnology in firms.

Registrations and bankruptcies of enterprises in the 3rd quarter of 2024
In the third quarter of 2024, there were 85 341 registrations of enterprises recorded i.e. 1.0% less than in the corresponding period of previous year and 104 enterprises declared bankruptcy i.e. 19.5% more than in the third quarter of 2023.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-September 2024
Foreign trade turnover in January - September 2024 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 1 122.7 bn, while in imports - PLN 1 109.7 bn. The positive balance reached the level of PLN 13.0 bn, while in the same period of 2023 year amounted to PLN 39.6 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of last year exports decreased by 7.7%, and imports by 5.7%.

Financial instruments of non-financial companies in 2023
2,515 entities participated in the study. Financial instruments in assets were reported by 2,386 enterprises for an amount of PLN 811.3 billion. Financial instruments in liabilities were shown by 2,298 enterprises for an amount of PLN 868.7 billion. Derivatives in assets and in liabilities were reported by 495 and 297 entities respectively, and the value of these instruments amounted to PLN 31.3 billion and PLN 23.2 billion.

The use of advanced technologies in industrial enterprises in the year 2023
The most frequently indicated purpose of using advanced technologies in industrial enterprises in 2023 was process integration (e.g. production, storage and logistics) indicated by 50.8% of entities using Internet of Things (IoT). The most frequently declared benefit resulting from the use of advanced technologies was the improvement of the quality of manufactured products (76.5% of industrial enterprises using Artificial Intelligence).

The value of assets held by investment funds at the end of June 2024 amounted to PLN 406.4 billion (an increase of 23.5% compared to the end of June of the previous year). Investment funds achieved a result on operations in the amount of PLN 16,3 billion (com-pared to PLN 16.7 billion in the previous year).

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in October 2024
According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in October 2024 by 9.6% lower than in the same period of 2023 (an increase of 9.7% the year before) and by 1.9% higher compared to September 2024 (an increase of 2.5% in the corresponding period of 2023).

Among the non-financial enterprises declaring the start of operations in 2023, 172 595 units remained active by 2024, i.e. 59.2%. The highest survival rate after the first year of activity was recorded for entities in professional, scientific and technical activities section (72.2%).

Index numbers of sold production of industry in October 2024
In October 2024, sold production of industry was by 4.7% higher than in October 2023, when an increase was recorded by 2.0% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, whereas in comparison with September 2024, it increased by 10.0%. In the period January-October of 2024, sold production of industry was by 0.7% higher than in the corresponding period of 2023, which saw a decrease by 1.8% as compared to the corresponding period of 2022.

In January-September of 2024 financial results of the surveyed non-financial enterprises were significantly lower comparing to those obtained a year earlier. The economic and financial indicators deteriorated. Investment outlays were lower by 7.5% than those recorded in January-September of 2023 (when there was an increase by 11.5%).

In October 2024 retail sales at constant prices were by 1.3% higher than the year before (against an increase of 2.8% in October 2023). Compared with September 2024, an increase by 7.8% in retail sales was recorded. Employed, unemployed and economically inactive persons (preliminary LFS results) - the third quarter of 2024
According to the preliminary results of the Polish Labour Force Survey, an increase in the activity rate of the population was observed in the third quarter of this year. The number of employed persons and the employment rate were higher than in the second quarter of this year, the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate also increased. On the other hand, the number of economically inactive persons decreased.
