Socio-economic situation of the country in May 2025

Short-term analysis of phenomena and processes taking place, among others, in the area of the labour market, wages and salaries, prices, basic areas of the national economy (agriculture, industry, construction, domestic market), transport and foreign trade, as well as the situation in selected countries of the world. Moreover, information published quarterly concerns GDP estimates, demographic processes, financial results and investment outlays of non-financial enterprises.

Statistical Bulletin No 5/2025

Basic data and indicators characterizing the socio-economic situation of the country, presented in the form of data series - monthly, quarterly and annual – regarding, among others, national accounts, demographics, labour market, wages and salaries, social benefits, prices, basic national economy areas (agriculture, industry, construction, domestic market, transport) and foreign trade, as well as money supply, public finance, financial results of non-financial companies, as well as investment outlays.

Gross Domestic Product in the 1st quarter of 2025. Preliminary estimate

Seasonally unadjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the the first quarter of 2025 was higher by 3.2% year-on-year comparision against the increase of 2.2% in the corresponding quarter of 2024 (constant average prices of the previous year).

Transport of goods and passengers in 2024

In 2024, compared to the previous year, the number of passengers transported by all modes of transport increased, except for inland waterway transport. On the other hand, both the total volume of goods and the number of tonne-kilometres performed decreased slightly.

Financial results of cultural institutions in 2024

Assets (liabilities) of the surveyed cultural institutions as of December 31, 2024 amounted to PLN 28,418.4 million. Total revenues were higher by 13.9%, while total costs were higher by 13.6% compared to those achieved in 2023.

Producer price indices for business services in the first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, the producer prices for business services increased compared to the previous quarter by 1.8% and compared to the first quarter of 2024 - by 4.1%.

Distribution of wages and salaries in the national economy in December 2024

In December 2024, the median monthly gross wage and salary in the national economy in Poland was 20.2% lower than the average monthly gross wage and salary in that month.

Methodological report - International supply of services by modes of supply

The objective of this document is to present the methodology for developing information on the international supply of services by the modes of services provided to recipients. The data sets calculated based on the presented methodology constitute detailed data on the value of international trade in services presented as part of the International Trade in Services survey (symbol 1.51.09 according to PBSSP).

Financial results of enterprises in the 1st quarter 2025

In the 1st quarter of 2025, total revenues of surveyed enterprises amounted to 1,272.9 bn PLN and total costs of obtaining the revenues amounted to 1,217.2 bn PLN. Net financial result amounted to 44.2 bn PLN.

Public libraries in 2024

As of the end of 2024, there were 7,541 public libraries, including 4,925 library branches. During the year, 5.4 million library users borrowed 98.8 million volumes of the collection.

The publication presents the results of business tendency survey, indicating key trends and factors limiting activity of enterprises in various areas of the economy (manufacturing, construction, trade and services).

Enterprises active in the first quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, there were 2 815 480 active enterprises in Poland. With regard to the kind of economic activity, the largest population were enterprises from section trade; repair of motor vehicles (17.7% of total). The largest number of active enterprises had their registered offices in Mazowieckie voivodship (19.9% of total).

Foreigners performing work in Poland in December 2024

At the end of December 2024, the share of foreigners in the total number of persons performing work in Poland was 6.8%. Between January and December 2024, the number of foreigners performing work increased by 6.4%.

The demand for labour in Quarter 1 2025

In Poland, at the end of Quarter 1 2025, there were 11.0% more job vacancies than at the end of the previous quarter, and the job vacancy rate increased by 0.08 percentage points (pp) to 0.82%.

Accidents at work in the first quarter of 2025 – preliminary data

14,323 persons injured in accidents at work were reported in the first quarter of 2025 (7.2% persons fewer than in 2024). The number of injured persons per 1,000 employed persons (the incidence rate) decreased from 1.12 to 1.04.

Entities of the national economy entered in the REGON register - May 2025

As at the end of May 2025 the REGON register included 5 360.0 thous. of national economy entities. In May this year, the number of entities registered, as well as deregistered, was lower than the month before.

Financial results of cultural institutions in the first quarter of 2025 (preliminary data)

In the first quarter of 2025, the financial result of cultural institutions was 20.3% higher than a year earlier. Total revenues increased by 10.3% and total costs – by 9.2%. On the other hand, investment outlays were lower than a year before – by 5.9%.

Blood donation in 2024

In 2024 blood donors amounted to 651.4 thousand, by 1.7% more than in previous year. They donated 1 548.4 thousand donations of blood and its components which is 47.0 thousand more than in 2023.

Energy efficiency in the years 2013–2023

Poland's energy efficiency increased by 1.5% in 2023 compared to 2022. Between 2013 and 2022, the annual cumulative growth rate of energy efficiency amounted to 1.1%. Primary energy intensity of GDP decreased by an average of 3.8% per year during this period, while final energy intensity of GDP decreased by 2.8% per year. The fastest rate of energy efficiency improvement was observed in industry (by 2.6% per year).

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January-April 2025

Foreign trade turnover in January–April 2025 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 501.1 bn, while in imports - PLN 512.8 bn. The negative balance reached the level of PLN 11.6 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of last year exports decreased by 2.4%, and imports increased by 3.3%.

Consumer price indices in May 2025

Consumer prices in May 2025 increased by 4.0% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year (with an increase of prices of services by 6.0% and goods by 3.3%). As related to the previous month consumer prices decreased by 0.2% (of which services by 0.4% and goods by 0.1%).

Higher education in the 2024/2025 academic year

As of 31 December 2024, 1,280.1 thousand students were enrolled in higher education institutions in Poland, 34.9 thousand more than in the previous year. 292.0 thousand graduates received diplomas in the 2023/24 academic year, 134 fewer than in 2022/23.

Persons performing work under contracts of mandate and related contracts in Poland in December 2024

On the last day of December 2024, there were over 2.4 million persons performing work under contracts of mandate and related contracts in Poland. Of these, 1 028.5 thousand persons were simultaneously performing work qualifying them as employed persons in the national economy.

Index of services production in March 2025

According to preliminary data, in March 2025 services production was higher by 4.9% than a year before (at that time, it was recorded an increase of 1.4%), and in relation to February 2025 increased by 7.5%.

Consumer tendency - June 2025

In June 2025, there was a improvement in both current and future consumer sentiment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indicator, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was minus 9.3 which was by 5.2 p.p. higher in relation to last month.

Average paid employment, wages and salaries in the national economy in 2024 – preliminary data

According to preliminary data, the average paid employment in the national economy in 2024 was 11.0 million full-time equivalents. There were 0.3% more of them compared with the previous year.

Average paid employment and average gross wages and salaries in enterprise sector in May 2025

In May 2025, the average paid employment in the enterprise sector was 6 433.3 thousand full-time equivalents, 0.8% lower than a year earlier.

Residential construction in the period of January-May 2025

In the period January–May 2025, there were less by 3.2% dwellings completed than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project as well as dwellings in which construction has begun also decreased (by 14.2% and 6.2%, respectively).

Prices of agricultural products in May 2025

Procurement prices of basic agricultural products increased in May 2025 in comparison with the previous month (by 2.1%) as well as while compared to the corresponding period of the last year (by 15.0%).

Outlays and results in industry - the 1st quarter 2025

Price indices of sold production of industry in May 2025

According to preliminary data, the prices of sold production of industry in May 2025 decreased both compared to April 2025 – by 0.2%, and May 2024 – by 1.5%.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in May 2025

According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically was in May 2025 lower by 2.9% than in the same period of 2024 (in May 2024 a decrease of 6.5%) and by 8.6% higher compared to April 2025.

Index of sold production of industry in May 2025

In May 2025, sold production of industry was by 3.9 higher than in May 2024 (when a decrease was recorded by 1.6%), whereas in comparison with April 2025, it decreased by 2.0%. In the period January-May of 2025, sold production of industry was by 1.6% higher than in the corresponding period of 2024 (which saw an increase by 0.3%).

Border traffic and expenses made by foreigners in Poland and by Poles abroad in the 1st quarter of 2025

In the 1st quarter of 2025, the border traffic of foreigners remained at the same level as the previous year, while that of Poles increased by 3.4% year-on-year. The values of goods and services purchased by foreigners in Poland and goods and services purchased by Poles abroad during this period were higher than in the 1st quarter of 2024 by 6.2% and 8.7% respectively.

Employed persons in the national economy in Poland in January 2025

On the last day of January 2025, the population of employed persons in the national economy was 15 048.3 thousand, i.e. 0.1% fewer than in January 2024. Compared with the previous month, their number decreased by 0.8%.

Statistics Poland, thanks to the use of administrative data sources, has broadened the scope and increased the frequency of information on employed persons in the national economy.

Value chains of domestic enterprises in 2023

At the end of 2023, most (81.2%) of the surveyed enterprises with 10 or more persons employed performed business functions only internally in own enterprise. The phenomenon of external sourcing concerned 18.8% of the surveyed enterprises, most of which (87.9%) contracted out functions only to other domestic enterprises. Business functions abroad were contracted out mainly to European Union countries.

The publication “Time use survey in 2023”, which presents the results of the time use survey of the population, carried out between 1 January and 31 December 2023, is another study on this topic.

Rates of economic poverty risk in Poland in 2024

After the increase recorded in 2023, there was a decrease in the extent of extreme poverty risk in 2024 (by 1.4 percentage points, from 6.6% to 5.2% of people in households). However, the decline was smaller than the mentioned increase between 2022 and 2023. However, the decrease was smaller than the aforementioned increase between 2022 and 2023.

Municipal Infrastructure - Water Supply and Sewage System in 2024

In Poland in 2024 the length of the sewage network increased by 4.3 thousand km (by 2.4%), and the number of sewage connections to residential buildings by 112.0 thousand pcs (by 2.8%).

Financial results of investment fund management companies in 2024

The value of total assets acumulated by investment fund companies at the end of 2024 amounted to PLN 3.8 billion and was by 20.1% higher than at the end of the previous year.

Forestry in 2024

Forest land area, as of 31 December 2024, comprised 9488.8 thousand ha, with forest area amounting to 9289.0 thousand ha, i.e. 29.6% of the area of the country. In 2024, forest renewals covered 60.7 thousand ha and afforestation – 0.9 thousand ha. In 2024, in comparison with the previous year, a recorded decrease in total removals (by 1.1%) amounted to 41222.9 thousand m3 and timber removals, a drop by 1.0%, equalled 39447.4 thousand m3.

Sales of prescription medicines in 2024

In 2024, 513.4 million prescriptions were issued, of which 97.4% were in electronic form, i.e. 0.8 percentage points more than in 2023.

Flash estimate of the consumer price index in June 2025

Consumer prices according to the flash estimate in June 2025 increased by 4.1% (price index 104.1) compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, and as related to the previous month increased by 0.1% (price index 100.1).

In 2024, the sown area of total cereals, potatoes as well as sugar beets increased, while the sown area of rape and turnip rape dereased. Compared to 2023, the production of field vegetables and tree friut decreased as well as the production of berry fruit. In December 2024, there was an annual increase in the number of pigs and poultry in total, and a decrease in cattle and sheep.
