Consumer price indices by voivodships in the fourth quarter of 2020

Facilities for improving physical condition in 2020.

In 2020, the vast majority of services offered in facilities for improving physical condition are fitness activities (approx. 85%) and gym training (approx. 81%). In addition, the facilities also offered other services such as sauna, martial arts, dancing, yoga and aqua aerobics.

The demand for labour in the fourth quarter of 2020

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2020, the number of job vacancies in Poland, in the entities of the national economy (parental units or their local units) employing at least 1 person, was 84.4 thousand and was 6.7 thousand or 7.4% lower than at the end of the third quarter of 2020. As compared to the end of the fourth quarter of 2019, the number of vacancies was lower by 41.0 thousand i.e. 32.7%. At the end of the fourth quarter of 2020, there were17.5 thousand unoccupied newly created jobs.

The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on selected elements of the labour market in Poland in the fourth quarter of 2020

In March 2020, a state of epidemic threat was announced in Poland, followed by a state of epidemic in connection with the spread of an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, called COVID-19. In relation to the assessment of the state of epidemic, solutions were introduced by law to prevent and counter-act the spread of the said virus and to combat the disease caused by it. These solutions were also applicable on the labour market. Among them was for instance the introduction of the possibility of working from outside a permanent workplace, that is remote work. The data presented in this publication were obtained from ‘the Survey on the demand for labour’.

Producer price indices for business services in the fourth quarter of 2020

In the fourth quarter of 2020, prices of the providers of business-related services increased by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, the prices increased by 1.1%.

The publication presents information about enterprise groups operating in Poland by type, size and country of location of the ultimate parent unit (global group head). The information concern, among others, the number of persons employed and the kind of activity of the group.

Foreign trade turnover of goods in total and by countries in January 2021

Foreign trade turnover1 in January 2021 in exports at current prices amounted to PLN 86.6 bn, while in imports - PLN 82.9 bn. The positive balance reached the level of PLN 3.7 bn, while in the same period of 2020 year amounted to PLN 1.1 bn. In comparison to the corresponding period of 2020 exports increased by 1.0%, while imports decreased by 2.0%.

Consumer price indices in February 2021

Consumer prices in February 2021, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 2,4% (with an increase of prices of services by 7,0% and goods – by 1,1%). As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 0,5% (with an increase of prices of services by 0,7% and goods – by 0,4%).

Consumer tendency - March 2021

In March 2021, there was an improvement in both current and future consumer sentiment moods compared to the previous month. The current consumer confidence indicator, synthetically describing the current trends in individual consumption, was -23.0 which was by 2.2 p.p. higher in relation to last month.

In February 2021, average paid employment in enterprise sector was lower by 1.7% y/y and amounted to 6334.0 thousand, while average wages and salaries were higher by 4.5% y/y and amounted to 5568.82 PLN (gross).

Price indices of sold production of industry in February 2021

According to preliminary data, in February 2021 the prices of sold production of industry increased compared to January 2021 by 0.8 % and compared to that recorded in the corresponding month of the previous year - by 2.0%.

In February 2021, sold production of industry was by 2.7% higher than in February 2020, when an increase was recorded by 4.8% as compared to the previous year, whereas in comparison with January 2021, it increased by 4.3%. In the period January-February of 2021, sold production of industry was by 2.0% higher than in the corresponding period of 2020, which saw a growth by 2.7%.

Price indices of construction and assembly production in February 2021

According to preliminary data, in February 2021 the prices of construction and assembly production in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year increased by 2.4%, and in comparison with January 2021 - by 0.2%.

Residential construction in the period of January-February 2021

In the period of two first months of 2021, there were less dwellings completed than the year before. The number of dwellings in which construction has begun also decreased. Whereas the number of dwellings for which permits have been granted or which have been registered with a construction project increased.

Index numbers of construction and assembly production in February 2021

According to preliminary data construction and assembly production (in constant prices) carried out domestically by construction enterprises employing more than 9 persons was in February 2021 by 16.9% lower than a year before (against a increase by 5.5% the year before) and by 5.5% higher compared with January 2021 (against a increase by 14.1% the year before).

In February 2021 retail sales at constant prices were by 3.1% lower than the year before (against a growth of 7.3% in February 2020). Compared with January 2021 retail sales increased by 3.5%.

Business tendency in manufacturing, construction, trade and services - March 2021

In most of presented kinds of activities general business climate indicator in March is at a slightly higher level than in the previous month. In most of researched areas improvement of “forecast” components has been reported, whereas in “diagnostic” ones – no change. The indicator is positive only in information and communication section. The most pessimistic assessments are reported by companies operating in the field of accommodation and food service

Prices of agricultural products in February 2021

Procurement prices of basic agricultural products in February 2021 remained unchanged compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, and in comparison with January 2021 increased by 4.7%. In February 2021 compared to January 2021 the procurement prices of agricultural products increased, except cows’ milk prices. The prices of most agricultural products were also higher in February 2021 than in the corresponding month of the last year. However, in an annual terms, the prices of potatoes, pigs for slaughter and poultry decreased.

In 2020 financial results of cultural institutions were lower compared to results in the same period of the previous year. Total revenues decreased by 5.3% and total costs by 5.9% but investment outlays increased by 1.2%.

In February 2021 entities having 50 or more persons employed and participating in the monthly survey of production of industrial products, reported production of 5 356 623 face masks used in medicine and 13 491 334 other protective face masks.

Cultural and creative industries in 2019

In 2019 121.5 thousand enterprises belonging to the cultural and creative industries carried out the activity. The overwhelming majority of entities (99.0%) were microenterprises, comprising 72.7% of those working in the area of cultural and creative industries.

Accidents at work in 2020 - preliminary data

62,740 persons injured in accidents at work were reported in 2020, by 24.6% fewer than in 2019. The number of injured persons per 1,000 employed persons (the incidence rate) also decreased from 6.15 to 4.62 respectively. Fatal accident victims accounted for 0.3% of all persons injured (0.1 percentage point more than in 2019). However, both the number of persons injured in serious accidents and in accidents with other effects decreased (by 4.9% and 24.7% respectively).

Flash estimate of the consumer price index in March 2021

Consumer prices according to the flash estimate in March 2021, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 3,2% (price index 103,2), and as related to the previous month increased by 1,0% (price index 101,0).

Activity of enterprises having foregin entities in 2019

At the end of 2019, 1 848 enterprises in Poland (a decrease as compared to 2018 by 0.6%) declared involvement in 3 979 foreign entities (an increase by 3.4% comparing to 2018) in the form of shares, branches or other forms.

According to the preliminary results of the Agricultural Census 2020, the total number of farms was approx. 1.3 million, which indicates a decrease of nearly 13% com-pared to data from the Agricultural Census 2010.
