Non-financial enterprises by kind and place of economic activity in 2024
In 2024, there were 2 374.5 thousand non-financial enterprises in Poland, of which 2 307.8 thousand were microenterprises. With regard to the type of business activity conducted, trade enterprises remained the largest group in population of non-financial enterprises (17.9% of total); and in terms of location – entities based in the Mazowieckie Voivodship (20.8% of total).
In 2024, the number of non-financial enterprises increased by 2.9% compared to the previous year. The impact on this change had mainly micro units (entities with up to 9 persons employed). They constituted 97.2% of the entire population of non-financial enterprises and their number increased by 3.0% compared to 2023.
The percentage of small (with a number of persons employed from 10 to 49), medium (with a number of persons employed from 50 to 249) and large units (with 250 or more persons employed) in 2024 amounted to 2.0%, 0.6% and 0.2% of all non-financial enterprises, respectively. In comparison with the previous year, the number of large enterprises increased (by 0.8%) while the number of small and medium-sized enterprises decreased (by 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively).
Compared with 2010, the total number of non-financial enterprises increased by 37.5%. Micro and large units recorded an increase in the number of enterprises (by 39.4% and 22.2%, respectively), while small and medium-sized entities recorded a decrease (by 7.9% and 9.4%, respectively).
