The Modern technologies and new sources of data in inflation measurement monograph (Vol. 70 of the BWS series) under the scientific editorship of Jacek Białek, Mieczysław Kłopotek and Tomasz Panek presents and summarises the work performed in the framework of the ‘Construction of an integrated system of retail prices statistics – INSTATPRICES’ project. This undertaking was carried out by a scientific consortium of Statistics Poland (the initiator of the consortium and the project leader), the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was financed through the resources of the National Centre of Research and Development granted to the consortium in the first edition of the ‘Poland’s social and economic development in the globalising-markets environment – GOSPOSTRATEG’ strategic programme for scientific research and development activities.

The publication contains the description of the methodology for the statistical research of retail prices  and activities undertaken to update it. The monograph also addresses all the most important issues regarding the production of statistical data in this filed, and in particular, problems connected to the main aim of the project, i.e. obtaining and processing data from new, alternative sources, such as data from retail chains and those automatically drawn from web pages of shops, and incorporating them in the mainstream of the research on retail prices.
