Presented data are calculated on the basis of the results of the Report on poultry hatching and the production of eggs for consumption (R-09W).
 
The attached tables present data on:
  • Eggs placed in incubation/ Number of eggs for hatching placed in incubation by the way of using chicks by months,
  • Chicks for use/Number of chicks produced in the hatcheries by way of using chicks and by months,
  • Foreign trade of chicks,
  • Structure and utilisation of hatcheries
Frequency of data collection - monthly
 

The legal basis are :
Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 November 2022 on statistics on agricultural input and output, amending Commission Regulation (EC) No 617/2008 and repealing Regulations (EC) No 1165/2008, (EC) No 543/2009 and (EC) No 1185/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Council Directive 96/16/EC and
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2745 of 8 December 2023 laying down rules for the application of Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards animal production statistics.
 

Definitions for the purposes of this Regulation:
  • Eggs for consumption means fresh eggs of laying hens intended for human consumption (not intended for incubation) or for preparation of egg products, in shell.
  • Eggs for hatching means fertilised poultry eggs intended for the production of chicks.
  • Hatchery means an enterprise for incubating eggs, hatching and supplying chicks.
  • Capacity means the maximum number of eggs for hatching which may be placed simultaneously in incubators excluding hatchers and, where this capacity changed (including when hatchery started or stopped their activity), the maximum reported capacity during the year.
  • Chicks means farmyard poultry with a live weight that does not exceed 185 grams.
  • Utility chicks means chicks for meat laying, or mixed use and cockerels from sexing.
  • Utility chicks: meat use means chicks intended to be fattened and slaughtered before reaching sexual maturity.
  • Utility chicks: Laying use means female chicks intended to be raised with a view to the production of eggs for consumption.
  • Utility chicks: mixed meat-laying use means chicks not clearly intended for laying or for the table.
  • Cockerels from sexing means male chicks of the same genetic breed as chicks for laying use (eggs for consumption or for hatching), intended nevertheless to be fattened and slaughtered.
  • Parent stock chicks means chicks intended for the production of utility chicks.
  • Grandparent stock chicks means chicks intended for the production of parent stock chicks.
  • Selection chicks means parent or grandparent stock chicks.
  • Chicks for use means utility or selection chicks produced in the hatcheries.
