The President of Statistics Poland, Marek Cierpiał-Wolan, and the President of the Management Board of the Credit Information Bureau (BIK),  Mariusz Cholewa, have signed a cooperation agreement on the exchange of information and the implementation of joint analytical and development initiatives.

BIK is Poland’s central credit information bureau, which collects and provides data on loans and credit histories for banks and other financial institutions, supporting responsible lending and financial system stability.

The purpose of the cooperation is to make broader use of existing data sources in order to provide a more comprehensive picture of socio-economic phenomena, benefiting public administration, businesses, researchers and citizens.

The agreement will enable, in particular:

  • improving the quality of statistical survey results, especially those concerning household credit,
  • conducting more in-depth analyses of the enterprise sector, including risk profiles,
  • enhancing methodologies used to study specialised segments of the financial market.

The cooperation does not introduce any new reporting obligations for citizens or enterprises. Instead, it relies on the responsible use of already existing information resources, reducing response burden while increasing the analytical value of official statistics.

All activities will be carried out in full compliance with legal regulations and with strict respect for protected confidentiality, including statistical confidentiality and banking secrecy. The data are used solely for statistical purposes and only in aggregated form, ensuring that no individual or entity can be identified.

This agreement represents another step in the development of modern official statistics, which increasingly leverage administrative and register-based data to deliver more accurate, timely and relevant insights into the economy and society.
