President of Statistics Poland chosen co-chair of the UNECE High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics

President of Statistics Poland, Ph.D. Dominik Rozkrut together with the Director General of Statistics Netherlands - Angelique Berg chosen new co-chairs of the UNECE High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS).

UNECE High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS) was established by the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) in 2010 t. It consists of Chief Statisticians from thirteen countries.

The main goal of HLG-MOS is to design and coordinate modernization processes in official statistics, including developing strategies, supporting organizational, communication and management adjustments in statistical organizations, and implementing new technologies.

Cooperation of experts (mainly statisticians) aims to develop innovative solutions, identify trends, opportunities and threats in the process of modernizing statistics.

The target audience is experts, managers and leaders in statistical organisations. The work is carried out within four modernisation groups:

- Blue-Skies Thinking Network

- Supporting Standards Group

- Capabilities and Communication Group

- Applying Data Science and Modern Methods Group.

The HLG-MOS is responsible for overseeing and providing strategic direction to the work programmes of the above-mentioned modernisation groups, as well as selecting the annual flagship international collaboration projects undertaken within the UNECE statistical modernisation programme.

The work of HLG MOS each year focuses on two overarching thematic issues, implemented in the form of projects with the support of external experts. For 2024, these will be: "Open source technologies" and "Generative AI".
