Average absolute deviation


Definition:

A classic measure of variability. The average of the absolute deviations from the variable's arithmetic mean.The average deviation is applied when: 1) the distribution of the examined feature is symmetrical or near symmetrical; 2) there are extreme values which, after rising to the square, would significantly burden the standard deviation.
