The financial institution established in 1944 and headquartered in Washington, D.C. It provides low-interest loans, zero to low-interest credits, and grants to developing countries. These support a wide array of investments in such areas as education, health, public administration, infrastructure, financial and private sector development, agriculture, and environmental and natural resource management.
The World Bank motto is : ‘Work for a world free from poverty’. The activities of this institution focus on reducing poverty by stimulating the countries’ economic development by supporting foreign investment and international trade, as well as facilitating capital investment, which indirectly aims to reduce poverty in developing countries.
The World Bank comprises of two institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA), and it is the part of the World Bank Group (WBG), belonging to the United Nations.
Data coming from The National Bank of Poland, which basic statistical task is to collect, process and analyze current data related to: balance of payments, external debt or the international investment position, after being properly prepared is sent to the international organizations, including The World Bank.
Polish official statistics, especially Statistics Poland, as its main coordinator, is obliged to provide statistical information at many levels. One of them is transferring statistical data to the World Bank. For example, in 2017 data concerning the household budgets was sent.
