Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
It is a specialized agency of the United Nations, created in 1945 and headquartered in Rome, that leads international efforts to defeat poverty, hunger and enhancing prosperity through food redistribution and rural development. FAO constitutes a forum where all countries have equal rights to debate and negotiate contracts. The organization also gathers and elaborates information as well as conducts its own surveys. It helps developing countries and the countries undergoing transformation to modernize and improve their agriculture, forestry and fisheries to provide food for population.
FAO also collects, develops and disseminates data concerning production, distribution and consumption of food products, fighting against malnutrition and hunger, data connected with the current state and the development in such areas as: agriculture, forestry, fisheries and livestock farming. The FAO Statistics Division, is responsible for collecting data in the FAOSTAT data base, which is accessible in such languages as: English, French, Spanish.
Polish official statistics, especially Statistics Poland, as its main coordinator, is obliged to provide statistical information at many levels. One of them is transferring statistical data to specialized international agencies, such as FAO. For example, in 2017 data concerning tea and fertilizers were provided.
