Population balance by marital status

Definition:

A method for estimating the number and the structure of population according to marital status in intercensal periods.

The results of the last general census regarding number of single, married, divorced, widowed persons according to sex and age, overall for Poland as well as broken down for rural and municipal population, form the basis for such estimates. The estimate is made for the population aged 15 and above as at 31 December of each year, accounting for changes in the balance arising from growing number of 15 year olds in the population, mortality in the individual age groups and marital status as well as the balance of migration in the population groups in question over subsequent years as well as changes in marital status due to marriage, divorce or death of spouse.
