Non-profit sector


Definition:

A group of all entities that are:

  1. Organizations, that is, institutionalized to some extent;
  2. Private, that is, institutionally separate from government;
  3. Non-profit-distributing, that is, not returning profits generated to their owners or directors;
  4. Self-governing, that is, able to control their own activities;
  5. Voluntary, that is, non-compulsory and involving some meaningful degree of voluntary participation.
