The regional specialisation of sold production of industrial products was determined based on the value of the location quotient LQ, which indicates the level of regional specialisation in a given voivodship relative to the national level[1]. For each voivodship, PKWiU (Polish Classification of Products and Services) sections with the highest LQ values were identified.

To illustrate the changes over a five-year period, 2019 and 2023 were selected for comparison. The LQ indicators for PKWiU sections from these two periods make it possible to determine the direction of regional specialisation development. Data on sold production of industrial products used to calculate the LQ indicator are collected using the enterprise-based method, i.e., according to the seat of the enterprise.

In 2023, similar to 2019, there were significant disparities in the level of regional specialisation of sold production of industrial products by PKWiU sections. The highest location quotient LQ (indicating very strong regional specialisation) was still observed in the Małopolskie Voivodship, in section (07) Metal ores.

[1] The indicator is called the location quotient or Florence’s concentration index.
