Health care expenditure in 2022–2024

According to preliminary estimates1, current  expenditure on health care in 2024 amounted to PLN 293.6 billion (representing 8.1% of GDP). This was 47.0 billion PLN more than in 20232, which expenditures amounted to PLN 246.6 billion (preliminary data). An increase in expenditure was observed both in public and private spending.

In 2024, preliminary estimates of current expenditure on health care amounted to PLN 293.6 billion and were PLN 47.0 billion higher than in preliminary data for 2023 compiled under the NRZ, which reached PLN 246.6 billion. Current expenditure on healthcare (public and private) accounted for 8.1% of preliminary estimated GDP in 2024 which represents an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to preliminary data for 2023. 


The preliminary estimates of the National Health Account include the total current expenditure incurred on health care in the previous year (T-1) and are presented in three main categories: HF.1: Public expenditure, HF.2: Private expenditure excluding direct household payments, and HF.3: Direct household payments. The preliminary estimates refer to data from 2024.

2The preliminary results of the National Health Account for 2023 (the final results will be published on 30 September 2025 in the form of Announcement of the President of Statistics Poland) have been prepared in accordance with the Joint Health Accounts Questionnaire (JHAQ) and cover health expenditure in four classification dimensions: financing schemes (HF), health care functions (HC), health care providers (HP) and revenues of financing schemes (FS).
