Polish athletes at the XVII Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games
A A AAt the XVII Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, Polish athletes won 8 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals. Poland ranked 16th in the medal standings.
From 28 August to 8 September 2024, the Polish team took part in the Summer Paralympic Games. The host of the Paralympic Games was announced on 13 September 2017, during the 131st Session of the IOC in Lima. The first competition for people with disabilities was organized in 1948 in London by Ludwig Guttmann, and the first Paralympic Games were held in 1960 in Rome. The Poles made their first appearance at a Summer Paralympics in 1972 in Heidelberg.
The slogan of the Paralympic Games in Paris is: “Games wide open”. 170 teams (including individual neutral athletes and the Olympic refugee team) and 4,400 athletes took part in the Paralympic Games in Paris. There were 82 Polish representatives (40 women and 42 men) at the Paralympics. Polish Paralympians were accompanied by 9 assistants, pilots or guides. Poles competed in 15 of the 22 sports held at the Paralympics. The most numerously represented by Poles were the para athletic competitions – 25 athletes (including 12 women), who were assisted by two assistants. Para table tennis (11 athletes, including 4 women) and para swimming (9 athletes, including 3 women) were also numerously represented. Sports in which Poles did not participate were Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball, Para Judo, Blind Football, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Tennis.
