Experts from national statistical offices, central banks, academia, and international institutions gathered in Warsaw to discuss modern methods of measuring inflation, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence. This year’s event was jointly organized by Statistics Poland (GUS), Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP), and the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH).

For the first time in Poland, experts from the Ottawa Group — one of the world’s leading international forums dedicated to price and inflation measurement methodology — met to exchange knowledge and experience. More than 100 participants attended the conference, held from 13 to 15 May 2026.

The Ottawa Group was established in 1994 by the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC). Its work focuses on issues related to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), combining methodological and theoretical perspectives with practical applications.

This year’s discussions addressed, among other topics, the use of artificial intelligence and new data sources in official statistics, as well as the impact of digitalization and e-commerce on price measurement. Dr hab. Marek Cierpiał-Wolan, President of Statistics Poland, participated in the panel discussion entitled “Modern Methods of Price Measurement, New Data Sources and the Retail Revolution.”

The conclusions drawn from the Warsaw discussions are expected to have a direct impact on the development of global analytical standards in the years ahead.
