Poland ranked 1st in the 2024 Open Data Inventory (ODIN), which measures the availability and openness of data provided by national statistical offices. Thus, it moved up from second place in 2022 to the top of the list, sharing the leadership spot with Malaysia and Singapore.

The excellent result of Polish public statistics (90 points) was made up of the following sub-scores: for the availability of the subject range of published data, we received 82 points (3rd place in the world), while for the level of openness of data – 97 points (promotion from 4th to 2nd position and improvement over the previous ranking by 5 points).

ODIN's overall score is indicative of the scale of data made available by national statistical offices and cooperating institutions that are important for monitoring sustainable development, as well as the level of openness of such data. The review takes into account whether indicators describing selected areas of socio-economic life and the environment are published (22 groups of indicators), the length of the time series, the release of information at sub-national levels of territorial division. It is also important whether the data are available without fees and license restrictions, in machine-readable formats, whether they are bulk downloadable and via API, with an appropriate range of metadata.

The ODIN ranking, conducted since 2015 by Open Data Watch, an international non-profit organization supporting the development of open statistics, measures how complete a country's statistical offerings are and whether the data meets international standards for openness. It evaluates data published on the websites of national statistical offices, and, in their absence, on other government sites such as ministries or open data portals. The ranking covers 197 countries and is considered one of the most important tools for assessing the openness of public data.

Poland's high position in the ODIN ranking confirms the commitment of Polish public statistics to the development of transparency and open access to public information. Statistics Poland, working with institutions involved in the implementation of the statistical research program, is successively developing the range of data made available, in accordance with standards, fulfilling the needs of data users.
