National Independence Day – 11 November
On 11 November, Poland celebrates National Independence Day – one of the most important public holidays in the country. It commemorates the events of 1918, when, after 123 years of partitions, Poland regained its independence and returned to the map of Europe.
This day symbolizes the rebirth of the Polish state, as well as the determination and solidarity of generations of Poles who, over the decades, fought for freedom and sovereignty.
The year 1918 also holds special significance in the history of official statistics – on 13 July 1918, a rescript was signed establishing and organizing the Statistics Office (Główny Urząd Statystyczny – GUS), one of the first institutions of the newly reborn state. Since then, Statistics Poland has continuously served as a reliable provider of information about the country and its people, supporting national development and evidence-based decision-making.
On National Independence Day, we remember those whose work, knowledge, and dedication contributed to building a modern state and its institutions.
