National Independance Day 11 November
A A A11 November is National Independence Day, which commemorates Poland's regaining of independence after 123 years of partition. On 11 November 1918, Germany signed an armistice ending World War I, and Józef Piłsudski, released from his Magdeburg fortress, took over the command of the army in the reviving Polish state from the Regency Council in Warsaw. The memory of these historical events of 106 years, when Poland returned to the maps of Europe, still exists for us, when actions are taken for the sake of our good homeland!
From the very beginning, the newly formed structures of state power were supported by Statistics Poland, which was established on 13 July 1918. The first director of the Statistics Poland was Prof. Józef Buzek, a statistician, economist and politician, who was appointed to this position on 8 November, 1918.
In the interwar period, Polish statisticians conducted two population censuses, in 1921 and 1931. The results of the 1921 and 1931 censuses and other statistical studies of historical value are available in digital form at the Central Statistical Library: https://cbs.stat.gov.pl/.
