Census enumeration area


Definition:

A spatial unit specified for general censuses and other statistical surveys according to the number of dwellings and inhabitants.



In view of effective course of census activities performed by one census accounter, the criterion of size of census enumeration area was set, amounting to not more than 500 persons and 200 dwellings. A census enumeration area is part of a statistical region; the maximum number of enumeration areas in a region is not greater than 9. Identification numbers of census enumeration areas are one-digit in the range of 1 to 9 within one statistical region, exceeding the maximum number of enumeration areas necessitates division of the region. The division into census enumeration areas is always fitted to borders of territorial division units and coherent with the borders of geodetic units used in the register of land and buildings, and in rural areas with the borders of localities. A census enumeration area may not be made of combination of an entire locality (localities) with parts of another locality (localities). Each housing building or a building including at least one dwelling is entirely part of one census enumeration areas or is divided into two or more census enumeration areas in the same statistical region.
