Clergy


Definition:

All clergymen who make a hierarchical community consisting of grades determined by the scope of the held power in church; they comprise diocese presbytery, remaining in connection with a bishop.



Clergy is not composed (strictly speaking) of members of religious orders, who according to canon law are at positions separate from clergy and laymen.
