Mandatory auxiliary unit listed in the Act of 15 March 2002 on the structure of the capital city of Warsaw. A district is created/divided/merged/abolished by the Warsaw City Council, by resolution, after consultation with residents or at their initiative. The name of the district, its boundaries, tasks and powers, and the principles and procedures for the operation of its bodies are defined by the Warsaw City Council in a separate statute.
