Sown area
Definition:
The area of all sown and planted crops in agricultural holding (both annual and perennial, but excluding permanent crops), cultivated both in the ground (in open fields or under low covers without access) and under high accessible covers (in greenhouses, high tunnels, and cold frames).
The area of crops does not include the area of orchards (plantations of fruit trees and shrubs and their nurseries), nurseries of ornamental trees and shrubs, and nurseries of forest trees for commercial purposes, willow cultivation, fruit trees and shrubs growing outside plantations, and also other permanent crops cultivated in the ground and areas under permanent crops under cover, etc. This category does not include the area of plantations of fast-growing trees and shrubs cultivated on agricultural land, which is qualified as forests. The area of crops in home gardens and the area of crops for plowing, cultivated as the main crop, should also not be included.
