Participation in education and training (by LFS)


Definition:

The measure of lifelong learning encompasses educational activities undertaken with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competences, within personal, civic, social or employment-related perspectives. Education should be understood education in the school system (formal education), while participation in training refers to non-formal education (often carried out in the form of courses, workshops, seminars, etc.).



In the LFS, the information concerning participation in education and training is collected for persons aged 15-74 years in respect to last 4 weeks or 12 months preceding the survey.
Besides formal and non-formal education there is also informal education – the information concerning participation in this form of education does not fall within the scope of the LFS.
