Perinatal mortality


Definition:

All stillbirths and deaths of newborns who died in the first week of life, that weighted at least 500 grams at the moment of birth or (if the birth weight is unknown) born after 22 weeks of the pregnancy duration or reaching at least 25 cm of the body length (from the crown to the heel).



This definition is recommended by WHO for the national purposes.
For the purposes of international comparisons it is recommended to include stillborn babies and early deaths of newborns, that weighted at least 1000 grams at the moment of birth or (if the birth weight is unknown) born after 28 weeks of the pregnancy duration or reaching at least 35 cm of the body length.
