Quotient scale

Definition:

Type of measurement scale. A variable is on a quotient scale if the ratio of two values can be interpreted in the real world. There is a "natural", absolute zero. Unlike poorer scales, the quotient scale does not impose restrictions on the use of mathematical operations and statistical methods. Unlike the absolute scale, however, the nature of the phenomenon does not imply a natural unit of measure to be applied. Examples of features measured on a quotient scale are: temperature in Kelvin degrees, age, weight, income.
