Backfilling


Definition:

Recovery operation where waste is used in excavated areas (such as underground mines, gravel pits) for the purpose of slope reclamation or safety or for engineering purposes in landscaping and where the waste is substituting other non-waste materials which would have had to be used for the purpose.



This category includes:

  • the use of waste for stowage of mines and quarries;
  • the use of waste for recultivation, land reclamation or landscaping.
