Site of Community Importance (SCI)


Definition:

The proposed special area of conservation of habitats, approved by the European Commission through Decision, which bio-geographical region to which it belongs, contributes significantly to the maintenance or restoration of the proper protection of natural habitat or species of interest to the Community, and may also contribute significantly to the coherence of Natura 2000 and conservation of biological diversity within the biogeographic region, in the case of animal species over large areas, the area of Community importance is the area within the natural range of such species, characterized by physical or biological factors essential to their life and reproduction .
