Mechanical wastewater treatment plant
Definition:
A set of devices forremoval of non-soluble pollutants from wastewater, i.e. solids, suspension matter, fats and oils.
The following processes are utilised in mechanical treatment of wastewater: straining, sedimentation, floating of light substances to the surface. The main devices in a mechanical wastewater treatment plant include: grates, settling tanks, sand traps and grease traps. Mechanical wastewater treatment plants are the lowest degree treatment plants. In general, it is assumed that the properly working wastewater treatment plant can provide reduction of suspension solids within 60-70% and BOD5 by 25-40%.
