Geographical Information System (GIS)


Definition:

Enables the collection, processing, storage, analysis and presentation of spatially referenced data.



Geographic information systems were created to describe, explain and predict the spatial distribution of phenomena. Their main feature is the linkage of spatial data with other types of data. One of the elements of GIS is software (applications) that enable data processing and, additionally, their visualization in the form of a map.
