Greenhouse gases


Definition:

Natural and anthropogenic gaseous constituents of the atmosphere which absorb and re-emit infrared radiation.



Greenhouse gases refer to carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (NH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and industrial gases: hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs), per fluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6).
