Deanery (decanate)


Definition:

Organizational unit of some churches, constituted of approximately ten parishes. Deanery is headed by an ecclesiastical dean, commonly appointed by the ordinary bishop; the division of dioceses into deaneries was made in order to i.a. improve a pastoral work.
