Definition:
In telecommunication and IT the frequency (measured in bits per time unit) with which information flows through a (physical or metaphorical) point. Bit rate is measured in bits per second (b/s) or bytes per second (B/s, with 8 b/s = 1 B/s) and their multiples (kb/s, Mb/s, Gb/s and KB/s, MB/s, etc.). Bitrate is a measure of the intensity of the stream of information (data).
