Optical fiber cable


Definition:

A kind of cable used for transmitting signals where light is an information carrier.



Degradation of transmitted signal is much lesser than in the copper cable and depending on optical fiber technology used, optical fiber cable allows distance between connected points of hundred kilometres and bandwidth of dozens gigabits per second (Gb/s).
