Voivodship regional council


Definition:

Voivodship regional council is the decision-making and controlling body of voivodship self-government.



The tenure of regional parliament councillors lasts 5 years (prior to 2018 the tenure lasted 4 years) and begins on the day of the election. It comprises councillors elected in direct elections. Its exclusive duties span: establishing local laws, establishing guidelines for managing voivodship wealth, drawing up strategy of voivodship development, voting on voivodship budget, voting on taxes and local fees payable within the legally established bounds, voting on delegating voivodship tasks to other self-government units, voting on membership in international associations and other forms of regional cooperation, voting on matters of voivodship wealth. It is the councillors duty to take part in the works of voivodship self-government units to which they have been chosen or delegated.
