In 2015, the CSO was implementing one development cooperation project with Georgia.

Development cooperation project with Georgia in 2015


The project entitled “Support the development of the Georgian System of Statistics in the field of environmental statistics” was implemented under the 2015 development cooperation plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. It was assigned to statisticians of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT) and to representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia. The project was  implemented by the Central Statistical Office of Poland in cooperation with the Statistical Office in Bialystok and the Statistical Office in Katowice.

The aim of the project was to support the public statistics of Georgia in the field of environmental statistics as well as to enhance its institutional capacity as a partner of central and local authorities in terms of statistical surveys methodology and statistical data analysis methods.

The project included the implementation of advisory, training and consulting activities on the following topics:

  • organization of environmental statistics in Poland, including formal and legal basis and environmental data sources;
  • international cooperation of the Central Statistical Office (GUS) and the role of the environmental statistics in international statistics;
  • statistical surveys conducted by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) concerning environmental statistics and economic aspects of the environmental protection:
    • the protection of nature, landscape and biodiversity,
    • pollution and protection of air,
    • water and wastewater management,
    • waste management;
  • surveys carried out by the Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Poland and by the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection.

Under the project two publications have been prepared. The Georgian language versions were sent to representatives of the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
