After the Congress of Polish Statistics

The Congress of Polish Statistics, celebrating 100th anniversary of the Polish Statistical Association, took place between 18th and 20th of April. The Congress was organized by the Polish Statistical Association, the Main Statistical Office, the Statistical Office in Poznań and the University of Economics.

The Congress of Polish Statistics received honorary patronage from the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski.

The conference programme contained a number of topic sessions, including the anniversary (historical) session, as well as others on the methodology of statistical research, regional statistics, population statistics, social and economic statistics, statistical data and statistics of health, sport and tourism.

The Congress was accompanied by a discussion panel devoted to the future of statistics.

In additional to its commemorative function, the Congress of Polish Statistics had its international dimension. It was an opportunity to present the Polish contribution to the world repository of statistical knowledge, which was emphasized by the numerous participation of representatives from foreign institutions and the promotion of the Congress on the international arena.

The Congress has been recognized as one of the major events in the history of Polish statistics. It inaugurated the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Polish Statistical Association by highlighting its role and legacy. It was also a fitting way to mark the Day of Polish Statistics in 2012.

The organizers and participants all appreciate the opportunity that the Congress provided to meet and exchange ideas and experiences, bringing together representatives of public statistics, researchers and other partners involved in studying social, economic and demographic processes.
