Tourist values in powiats and their surrounding areas
A A AThe aim of the study is to measure the tourist values in powiats, taking into account their surroundings, using an innovative method that allows for a multivariate analysis for areas designated on the basis of uniform criteria. For individual powiats and cities with powiat rights, information on cultural and environmental values, tourist base (stimulants) and destimulating factors (related to environmental pollution and crime) was used not only in a given territorial unit, but also in neighboring ones, using the decreasing function distances. Thanks to this, it is possible to identify those places in Poland where there is a concentration of high tourist values, taking into account various components. The results of the study show that among the territorial units with the highest values of the tourism value indicators, there are both the largest cities with rich cultural values, as well as powiats with exceptional environmental values from mountain areas, coastal areas or lake districts. A factor strongly influencing the tourist value is the presence of health resort resources, which has an impact on maintaining year-round tourist traffic.
The study “Tourist values in powiats and their surrounding areas” can be used by state authorities (central and local government) to plan and implement activities at the national, regional and local level affecting the development of tourism and the use of the potential of tourist values in a given area (wider than a single powiat or city with powiat rights). The study may also be useful for entrepreneurs or social organizations operating in the field of tourism, as well as for Polish citizens and foreigners planning a tourist trip in our country.
The study shows that in addition to places already well known as tourist attractions, there are also places that have high tourist values that have not yet been fully used for the development of tourism.
On the basis of the tourism value indicators for powiats, appropriate values for voivodships were also determined.
