Adult Education Survey (AES) is one of the components of the system of European statistical system on adult learning. The Adult Education Survey (AES) is conducted every six years and provides more detailed data on various aspects related to adult participation in formal and non-formal education. It is also the only source of information on informal learning among persons aged 18-69.

The primary objective of the Adult Education Survey is to provide data comparable across European Union countries on learning among persons aged 18-69, which serve as a tool for monitoring adult participation in lifelong learning at both international and national levels. The set of mandatory variables in the survey includes participation of persons in this age group in formal education, non-formal education and informal learning, in relation to socio-demographic characteristics. Additionally, the survey provides information on access to information about learning possibilities, obstacles to participation in education, learning methods, time spent on learning, expenditure related to acquiring knowledge and skills, and the level and distribution of foreign language skills.
