Definition:

sum of the distances travelled by:

  • freight, passenger or other trains (unit of measurement: train-kilometre) or
  • locomotives in freight, passenger, or other train, and in the shunting movements (unit of measurement: tractive vehicle-kilometre) or
  • freight, passenger or luggage wagons , which are loaded and empty in freight, passenger or other train (unit of measurement: wagon- kilometre).


1 train-kilometre - distance of train (locomotive together with wagons) travelled by 1 km.
1 tractive vehicle-kilometre - distance of locomotive (in train or separately) travelled by 1 km.
1 wagon-kilometre - distance of wagon in train travelled by 1 km.
