Thematic map


Definition:

Map designed to provide information on a single topic, such as geology, rainfall, population.



Well suited to visualise statistical data with a geographical dimension. The statistical data are regarded as attributes which are linked to the geographical entities in the map. Thematic maps in which areas are coloured, shaded, dotted, or hatched to create darker or lighter areas in proportion to the density of distribution of the theme subject are also called choropleth maps.
